A psychological evaluation is a crucial step in the surrogacy process, ensuring that surrogate mothers are emotionally and mentally prepared for the journey ahead. This assessment helps determine a surrogate’s ability to handle the physical, emotional, and ethical responsibilities of surrogacy, ensuring the best possible experience for everyone involved.
At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations in accordance with ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) guidelines, prioritizing the emotional well-being and preparedness of our surrogate mothers.
The psychological screening consists of two key components:
The evaluation ensures that a surrogate mother is fully prepared for the journey and capable of handling potential challenges. The screening assesses:
Many surrogates feel anxious about the psychological screening, wondering why it is necessary and what happens if they do not pass.
Why is psychological screening required?
The evaluation ensures that surrogates are emotionally stable, prepared for surrogacy, and capable of handling the challenges of pregnancy on behalf of intended parents.
Does this mean something is wrong with me?
Not at all. Psychological evaluation is not about diagnosing problems, but about ensuring that surrogates are fully prepared for the physical and emotional aspects of surrogacy.
What happens if I don’t pass?
Failing a psychological evaluation does not always mean disqualification. In some cases, additional counseling or support may be recommended before proceeding. The goal is to ensure that surrogates have the resources needed for a successful surrogacy journey.
If a surrogate mother is married or in a committed relationship, her spouse or partner must also participate in psychological screening. A supportive and understanding partner plays a critical role in ensuring a stable, healthy pregnancy experience.
By identifying and addressing these concerns early, we help create a strong, supportive foundation for a successful surrogacy journey.
Psychological evaluations are confidential medical records protected by HIPAA laws. The full psychological report is only shared with the surrogacy agency and medical providers. Surrogate mothers do not receive detailed test results, but they are informed of the outcome. The surrogate’s partner’s evaluation is also confidential and used only for screening purposes.
A comprehensive psychological evaluation ensures that both surrogate mothers and their partners are fully prepared for the surrogacy process. At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we provide:
✔️ Comprehensive psychological assessments for surrogate candidates
✔️ Guidance and support throughout the surrogacy journey
✔️ Resources for surrogates and their partners to navigate emotional challenges
By ensuring that surrogates and their partners are emotionally and mentally ready, we help create a positive, stable, and successful surrogacy experience.
