At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we prioritize your health and well-being to ensure a safe and successful surrogacy journey. As part of the comprehensive medical screening, some surrogates may discover they have uterine polyps, which may require treatment before moving forward.
Uterine polyps are small, noncancerous growths that develop in the lining of the uterus. Many women have them and don’t even know it, but in some cases they can cause symptoms like:
While they’re usually harmless, polyps can sometimes affect fertility, which is why fertility clinics check for them during the screening process.
If a polyp shows up during an ultrasound or saline sonogram, the clinic may recommend removing it before moving forward. The most common treatment is a simple outpatient procedure called a hysteroscopic polypectomy. It’s minimally invasive, and most women recover quickly—often within a few days.
After removal, the clinic might ask you to wait a few weeks (sometimes longer) before they can give full medical clearance. Every clinic has its own timeline, so it really depends on their specific guidelines.
Yes, absolutely. Having a polyp doesn’t disqualify you from being a surrogate—it just means you might need to take care of it before continuing. In most cases, once it’s treated, you’re good to go.
If this comes up during your screening, we’ll be here to help. Your GSHC case manager will guide you through each step and work closely with the clinic to make sure everything stays on track. You won’t be alone in the process.
